Homework 6

I created a simple motion of a projectile ball hitting a cube that then shatters into 20 pieces. I would like to maybe incorporate this element into our game through maybe the use of bombs or large computer explosions or perhaps building explosions through the AIs firing something, I think that this element would do well in our game since its generally a universally used motion and I can only think of a few games that don't have some explosion element in them.I was looking at blends on blend swap and maybe we could use a car blend from there to maybe crash into the AIs and they themselves explode into pieces.

Quick update for Homework 3

I was able to make the Daleks move in every direction, as well as make them rotate. I still had issues with the odd coloring but I think it may be just the blend file. As for the team update, we discussed different meeting times today after class and began to nail down concrete jobs for ourselves. We also discussed the idea of teaching our particular specialties to each other just so all of us know and if needed can quickly help out. I made sure to voice my concerns over the thin line my team and I walk with our game resembling the Matrix too much which allowed us to brainstorm and acknowledge that we need to come up with unique features that help our to not just be a remake of the Matrix. Overall we made good progress today and I'm ready to meet on Saturday to dive into the creation.

Homework 5

Update:
For this homework, I used the Dalaks, a small gun, a ball, as well as Carl from the youtube videos Llamas with Hats  to work  on collisions with Blender. I was able to get two object to somewhat collide however the Dalaks I downloaded are still giving me trouble with movement.

1.) In relation to my game, I downloaded a medieval village that could possibly play a role somewhere as well as a gun that could of course be used as a weapon. I feel as though due to our games futuristic concepts that perhaps we could use the Dalaks in some form given that whoever made them did a great job and I'd like to see them somewhere in our game.

2.) I like the idea that perhaps the collision aspect could be used to ass to the element of shock and surprise of our game by possibly making it to where our character gets hit or hits someone else with an object, either way adding to the fun of the game. Ive been testing out the speed of certain objects and would possibly like to make the AI zombie things (aka the bad guys) run super fast and collide with our character as a way of surprising the player and adding difficulty as well as Blender skills.

3.) With the things I have downloaded, I could possibly make a game involving a medieval village run by Dalaks in which Carl must use a gun, a ball, and other assorted yet random objects to defend the himself on the main thorough fair of the village. It would be very simple and maybe a little boring but would be a game none the less or I could download more scenery and make it to where you must control one of the characters and just get from point A to point B.

Homework 4

Chapter 2
1.) What are the experience(s) you want your player to have.
I want my player to feel a sense of shock and excitement. I want them to feel a rush as they move down a certain area and not expect what they are about to walk into.
2.)  What are the essential element(s) of that experience.
Unexpected movement, fast paced music, confusion, hurt.
3.)  Suggest a few ways your game might capture those experiences.
The player is going to be led to believe that the bad guy of the game (the AI) is evil and in actuality is good.As for the excitement, hopefully well have things jump out at the player and really scare them.

Chapter 3
1.) Discuss a few ways in which you might include surprise in your game
Without giving too much away, hopefully well lead the player to think one thing and then crush that thought down with a shocking plot twist that debunks the whole basis of the game.
2.) How will your game be fun?
Well I would hope our game as a whole would be fun or else I would feel like my team and Ii went wrong somewhere along the line, however, there was talk of puzzles and such but at this time I don't quite know how that will fit into the game somewhere.
3.) Discuss the goals of your game (as it stands now).
Leave a lasting impression on the player and create a memorable story line.
4.) State your thoughts on how you will make the player attached to your game, or motivated to play the game.
Memorable story line, great characters, and a need to know what happens next.
5.) What problems do you expect the players to solve in your game?
How to avoid the life forms controlled by the AI and choices throughout the game that could influence the game play.

Progress update

Just a quick update on the progress I've made this past week. I have made many sketches on the concepts for the game as well as wrote and rewrote story lines that I think my team may like. On the Blender front, I downloaded a couple objects after much trouble figuring out how to make them appear on Blender, however, I have yet to make these downloaded object move (i.e. I downloaded Daleks from Doctor Who yet when I try to make them move, they just sit there and the color of them is also off in the play mode) I can see that trying to figure out this learning curve of Blender is going to take longer than expected.

Homework #2

1) When and where did you meet?
- My group and I met at the Union courtyard area last Friday and discussed our ideas and brainstormed over games.

2) What did you discuss?
- We talked over our favorite games and threw out ideas on what our game should be.

3) Did you take notes? Why? Why not?
- I did not take notes because we were simply discussing and I felt that if I tried to take notes, I wouldn't have been able to focus as much on the discussion as I would have liked.

4) Did you transfer the contents of the discuss to the computer?
- No, I have not yet, I am still in the process of sketching for the game and writing down rough story lines.

5) Did you discuss the game document?
- No, we did not discuss the game document since we were just discussing the game. Discussing the game document seemed pretty premature.

6) Did you pick a team leader. Why? Who is it?
- No, we opted not to pick a team leader since we wanted everyone to have an equal part and say in the group.

7) Please describe briefly some initial ideas regarding the game you plan on developing.
- We liked the idea of a Dystopian cyber society involving controlling AI's and viruses. We also threw out ideas on maybe an insanity element as well as ways to make the player connect to the story line. Lastly we thought of some stealing element that could maybe be added in.

8) State on your blog the contributions you, the individual, made towards the team game in the last week.
- I helped my group come up with ideas and brainstorm when we met. I also, like the rest of my team, drew sketches and wrote a version of a story line for the team to collaborate and mesh our stories once we meet again.

Favorite Games

Perhaps on of my all time favorite games is Kingdom Hearts 2 from Square Enix

http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Kingdom_Hearts_II

This has been one of my favorite games since I first played it years ago, I would play it for hours and hours totally engrossed in the Final Fantasy type game play and the nostalgia playing through many of my favorite Disney Lands.
The story line of this game is absolutely amazing maintaining strong ties into the world of the beloved Final Fantasy yet standing on its own among its competition. Its been years since I've religiously played this game yet I can still recall details from its story line. I know that's what I really like in a game when I can still know every piece from it yet I haven't played in awhile, that's the mark of a truly memorable game.
The graphics for this game stand on their own. For the time it was made it was one of the most beautiful and well designed games you could play for the PS2, what with being able to see the way the wind blows through the main character Sora's hair or the anguish on the character Riku's face as the story proceeds. Square Enix really outdid themselves on this game and kept up with the quality that many of their followers expected.
Expected to come out sometime in the next couple years is the much anticipated final to the Kingdom Heart's trilogy, Kingdom Hearts 3. Kingdom Hearts 3 is expected out for the PS4 and is supposed to feature all new lands such as the world of "Frozen" and much more as well as the stunning graphics that come with any game for the PS4, these graphics are anticipated to not only blow the competition away but also blow the minds of its players.

The second game is a tie between Silent Hill and Blazing Dragons.

I chose Silent Hill because there is just something about the psychological aspect of the game that is so haunting and stays with the player for awhile to come. The graphics of the game are awful but for its time it was a truly ground breaking game not only for its game play but for the new psychological horror genre it opened up.

As for Blazing Dragons, the game play is mediocre but the story is absolutely hilarious and the game holds a special place in my heart since my dad and I used to play this game for hours together, and he's the reason I love video games today.
This is a photo of Pete Wentz from Fallout Boy, some friends and I had went to their "Save Rock and Roll" tour and we were close enough to the stage that I was able to snap this super close picture of Pete.
My Junior year of high school, I was able to go on a 2 week exchange program to France, Italy, and Switzerland. While there I went to Paris and was able to get this amazing picture of the Eiffel Tower and practice my french speaking skills.
